La Scola is an evocative medieval village (14th-15th centuries). It has a homogenous architectural style and the original buildings are still intact with typical homes, tower/houses, chapels and a monumental cypress tree.
Archaic symbols adorn the town; they are the craftwork of the acclaimed Comacine master stonemasons, builders, plasterers and painters. They were grouped together in itinerant builders’ guilds that were quite numerous throughout Italy between the 1300s and 1500s: they transformed old towers in housing for families and homes, haymows and drying shacks were built even outside the town walls.
