In every corner of Bologna, music, theatre and performing arts intertwine and recur
A very strong connection has always existed between
theatre, music, and the Bologna area, so much that the city was designated by
UNESCO as "City of Music" in 2006. The streets are filled with unmissable live
events and international festivals for all kinds of music, present and past
prose performances are constantly held, and great attention is devoted to
history, studies and manufacturing activities with special regard to the famous
violin makers. Thus, voices of music and exhibitions echo through every corner
of the city and its surroundings.
A large variety of musical and performing events characterises the Bologna area throughout the year. In springtime, the two-year Ocarina Festival in Budrio is a must-see event for all those who wish to get acquainted with the colours and sounds of this magical instrument, thanks to the festival’s international guests. In summer it’s time for the Porretta Soul Festival, the prestigious European event for those who are curious and passionate about soul music and rhythm blues. The Varignana Music Festival, with its extensive programme of contemporary classical music, also takes place during the summer. And, not to be forgotten, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the city’s opera house, is an endless source of cultural programmes in every season, together with the notes of Lucio Dalla’s songs that have always enlivened the central Via D’Azeglio.
