Villa Spada probably dates back to the end of the 18th century, when the property belonged to Iacopo Zambeccari who died in 1795. It was then acquired in 1820 by the Spada family and you can still admire the coat of arms on the southern façade of the villa.
The building passed into the hands of the Municipality of Bologna in the 1960s that made it the site of the Museum of Textiles and Upholstery “Vittorio Zironi” in 1990.
