Established in 1804 as the state Philharmonic High School it became a Conservatory in 1942 and took on the name Giovanni Battista Martini, after a Bologna internationally famous musician born in the 18th century.
Internationally famous musicians such as Rossini, Donizetti, Malipiero, Molinari Pradelli studied here. It now has around 100 professors who teach classical music and also contemporary forms such as electronic, utility and jazz music.
