The Aula Magna di Santa Lucia is located in the church complex with the same name. It dates back to the 5th century and was commissioned by San Petronio.
During the 13th century, a church dedicated to St. Lucia was built on the foundations and then a college was constructed alongside in 1570. After the foundation of the Kingdom of Italy it was used as a military barrack, as a gym for the nearby Galvani High School and a workshop of the Aldini Valeriani Industrial Technical Institute.
After the 1986-88 restoration it became the Aula Magna of the University of Bologna.
