The Renato Dall’Ara Stadium is the first in Italy built as a result of public initiative.
It was designed as a sports facility that included a six-lane tracks, two swimming pools and four tennis courts. The construction of the building originally known as the “Littoriale” began in 1925 and its appearance, inspired by Imperial Rome, was constructed in the Fascist style. King Victor Emmanuel III attended its inauguration in May 1927 followed by Mussolini in October of the same year.
In 1983, the stadium was dedicated to the memory of Renato Dall’Ara, (President of the Bologna Football Club) and was further extended and modernised for the 1990 World Championships.
Nowadays, in addition to sports events and activities, the stadium also hosts many concerts.
