Bologna
The church of Santa Cristina, one of the most beautiful churches in Bologna, is part of the complex "della Fondazza" (Complesso di Santa Cristina “della Fondazza”), founded around the middle of the 13th century by a group of Camaldolese nuns. The complex was completely rebuilt at the end of the 15th century, when the cells, the dormitory and the ancient refectory that develop around the quadrangular cloister were originated and date back to. The church, instead, which was built in 1606, has a single nave with four chapels on each side where works by artists, such as Ludovico Carracci and the only sculptural testimonies of Guido Reni are preserved. The church also has a bell tower, dating back to the end of the 17th century, on top of which a copper statue of Santa Cristina originally stood, which was, however, removed around the middle of the 18th century. Today the church is a privileged centre to listen to music and offers every year, from October to May, a rich programme of musical festivals, entrusted to exceptional interpreters. The Schola Gregoriana Benedetto XVI, directed by Don Nicola Bellinazzo, is also located here, aimed at promoting the knowledge and diffusion of Gregorian chant. The complex was restored in 2004 by the University of Bologna and is now home to the Department of Arts.

The church is open to the public only in occasion of the concerts. Guided tours can be arranged by appointment.
