The park is in the area around the hills of Jola and Bandiera. The name Bandiera is connected with the family that owned many properties in the 700 area, including the Casino Bandiera right at the top of the hill, where today stands a row of cypress. The name Forte is due to a fortification which was located on the summit 1860, part of the city defensive line between Reno and Savena. Forte Bandiera has been gradually acquired by the municipality during the '60s and '70s. Today it covers an area of 16 hectares. The park, one of the first among the hills, has been gradually acquired by the municipality during the '60s and '70s, today the area is 16 hectares covered by fields, fruit trees, wooded areas. It offers a beautiful panarama of Bologna, Rastignano, Savena valley and of the hills toward the Reno.
