The Lido di Casalecchio is a real bathing establishment whose origins date back to the 1920s with the introduction of paid admission, when it was decided to enhance the large area of sand and fine earth levelled over the centuries by the Reno. The initiative was so successful that on summer Sundays during the Belle Epoque, thousands of people flocked to the area to relax in the sun, perform diving and use the sblisgarole (water slides made by bathing the white granite of the Chiusa).
From the 1930s, with the introduction of paid admission, cabins, showers, latrines, umbrellas, drinks vendors and even a restaurant were provided where one could enjoy the fragrant fried fish from the Rhine in addition to Bolognese cuisine. After the demining of the entire area at the end of the war, the cabins and restaurant were restored and 'l'Isola Verde' was inaugurated, a dance club that entertained fans with swing, jazz and ballroom dancing and constituted the main meeting point of the bombed-out Casalecchio. The economic boom and mass tourism led to its decline and closure, until it reopened in 1998.
ALERT! The Reno river is not suitable for bathing and the bathing ban remains in place.
