Sottopasso di Piazza Re Enzo (Re Enzo's subway)

It is managed by the Cineteca di Bologna as a venue open to the public for temporary exhibitions.

On 20 April 1960, a pedestrian subway was inaugurated in Bologna between Via Rizzoli, Via Indipendenza and Via Ugo Bassi and Piazza Nettuno and Palazzo Re Enzo, also housing shops, bars and offices. A similar underpass, with advertising windows and shops, was inaugurated in 1965 at the crossroads between via Ugo Bassi, piazza Malpighi and via Marconi. The new subways have, in the past, allowed pedestrians to avoid crossing the crossroads in the centre most congested with vehicular traffic.

Since 2022, in anticipation of the expected opening of the new Modernissimo cinema, the Sottopasso has been reopened to the public on the occasion of the municipal initiatives for the 100th anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini's birth, revealing its new inclination as a place of culture.

Also clearly visible are sections of the Roman decumanus, the continuation of the Via Emilia into the city, discovered during excavation work.
