The Museum illustrates, from age to age, the changes in the relationship between man and environment, the evolution of human settlements, the economic activities, the everyday life and the burial rituals of the civilizations that lived in the Bolognese Plain from the Paleolithic period to the Middle Ages.
Scale models, videos and evidences help in retracing centuries of history of this area. Among the exhibited material there are: hunting and defensive weapons found in the important site Trebbo Sei Vie (in Budrio), dating back to Late Bronze Age; funerary urns, jewels and utensils coming from the MUV – Museum of the Villanovan culture; a rich archaeological collection from the Roman period; crockery from the Middle Ages.
The Elsa Silvestri Museum has also a separate branch, set in one of the old town towers, dedicated to the hemp cultivation and manufacturing: here, during the town festivals, is possible to watch the re-enactment of the hemp spinning and weaving
