Valeria Magli | Morbid

The MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art in Bologna presents MORBID, an exhibition by Valeria Magli, curated by Caterina Molteni.

MORBID is the adjective chosen by Valeria Magli as the title of her work to describe the female figure. "Morbido" (soft) in Italian, and "morboso" (obsessive) in translation from German, the term captures the contradictory characteristics attributed to women over the centuries, in contrast to the intact and “rigid” figure of man (ironically associated by the author with a banana).

Inspired by this sinuous and delicate image, yet capable of generating manic and obsessive forces, MORBID explores the artistic research of dancer and choreographer Valeria Magli (Bologna, 1952. She lives and works in Milan), focusing on the redefinition of women and the feminine promoted by the author throughout her career, presented in the exhibition through a chronological and thematic path from the 1970s to the early 2000s.
