FAI Spring Days 2024 in Bologna
Updated on 14 March 2024 From Bologna Welcome
On 23 and 24 March 2024, the FAI Spring Days are back in Bologna. Two days of extraordinary openings with free access to historic palaces, theatres and prestigious places to visit in and around the city.
Step into the fascinating history of the Lambertinis, one of the most illustrious families in Bologna since the 12th century. From Palazzo Lambertini Taruffi to the Lambertini Tower, every step reveals traces of the city's rich history. Admire the Renaissance elements of the palace and enjoy the magnificent view from the tower, which witnessed epic events such as the Battle of Fossalta in 1249. A journey through time you don't want to miss.
Although currently closed for renovation, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna is offering an exclusive visit opportunity. Let local high school students and their teachers guide you through the theatre's premises, from the main auditorium to the Orchestra pit and the theatre stage itself. A unique opportunity to see the beating heart of an opera house up close, free of seats and spectators.
The Fairgrounds are the result of a major 20th century urban planning project, ready to be explored in all its contemporary glory during the FAI Spring Days. Visit the tower in Viale Aldo Moro no. 50, currently home to the Legislative Assembly of the Emilia-Romagna Region, and learn more about this vibrant part of the city and its lasting impact on our architecture and culture.
And if you are a FAI member, don't miss a visit to the bell tower of St Peter's Cathedral in Bologna. Built largely between 1184 and 1426, incorporating an earlier 10th-century structure, it is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Eager to admire the view from up there?
Greater Bologna boasts a number of fascinating places to visit during the FAI Spring Days.
In Imola, take the opportunity to visit the Church of San Michele or follow the memorial route dedicated to Ayrton Senna. Don't forget the Monastery of the Poor Clares S. Stefano, between via Cavour and via Fratelli Cairoli. Each of these places offers a unique perspective on the history and culture of the area, with plenty of inspiring stories to tell.
When travelling through the lowlands, stop off at Palazzo Bevilacqua in Crevalcore (BO), with its frescoes and Renaissance architecture, or at the Municipal Theatre restoration site which, after the devastating earthquake of 2012, is waiting to emerge more majestic than before. The FAI visit will allow you to unfold the secrets of its reconstruction.
Lastly, nature and science enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity to explore the ISPRA - Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale in Ozzano dell'Emilia. Walk through the former agricultural grounds, visit the Genetics laboratory and plunge into the world of the Zoological Museum. This educational and engaging experience will astound you with the beauty and complexity of the natural world. Also worth a visit are the ancient collections of the DIMEVET Veterinary Museum.
And what about the Apennines? Head to Medelana, the upper part of Marzabotto (BO), right in the middle of the Bolognese mountains, to visit 'Casamento', the 16th-century hamlet with its hidden and fascinating charm; alternatively, make your way to Villa Aria in Marzabotto, where you will be guided for an exclusive loop tour of about 45' inside the property.
Undiscovered treasures abound in every corner.
