Got plans to spend the 2 June bank holiday in Bologna? A whole host of unmissable events is waiting for you! Just check them out below.
Did you know that Bologna is also a UNESCO Creative City of Music? Thanks to the Bologna Estate events calendar, the weekend will be studded with festivals, music and entertainment. The official 2024 events calendar will soon be online.
On Friday, 2 June, Nickelback will perform at the Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno (BO). The band led by Chad Kroeger, who has sold over 50 million records, is ready to make the Bologna audience go wild with their greatest hits.
While in Bologna, choose from the many exhibitions on offer: Mimmo Paladino at Palazzo Boncompagni (last days to visit), Bologna Fotografata located in the subway gallery of Palazzo Re Enzo, Illusions Museum at Palazzo Belloni, Sorcery at Palazzo Pallavicini, Painting in Bologna in the Long Nineteenth Century (a review of many exhibitions and events scattered in no less than 16 museum venues) and Vertigo, a video-art exhibition at MAST with free admission.
Get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, explore Bologna's outdoors on your own or discover the initiative on Sunday 2 June by Le colline fuori dalla porta, discovering butterflies, spiders and snails. Meet at 10 a.m. at the entrance to the Park in Via San Mamolo (Giardino Norma Mascellani).
Also enjoy the area's wonderful cycle routes, including the Sun Route, a route suitable for all cyclists.
For those who like to get around by bike, we also recommend a promenade dedicated to Street Art.
From Luis Gutierrez's iconic mural in Via Zamboni 38 to Levalet's Poster Art or Lokiss & Rae Martini's works, Ericailcane's mice and Bastardilla's female figures.
Deep into the city... and beyond! For your 2 June holiday, push the urban boundaries and discover the fascinating villages around Bologna, including Pieve di Cento, San Giovanni in Persiceto, Bazzano, Borgo La Scola and the intriguing Rocchetta Mattei, just to name but a few. A must-see is definitely Dozza with its unique and camera-ready painted walls.
Should your four-legged friend keep you company during the holiday, Bologna won't let you down. From the old town, just walk along the porticoes and enjoy the spectacular landscapes from the Sanctuary of San Luca or San Michele in Bosco. In addition, Bologna's museums offer a dog-sitting service for you to have a worry-free time admiring the city's artworks.
